The challenge
Controlling sea lanes and coastal regions is a critical task for all coastal states and it requires powerful sensors. When it comes to fulfilling this mission, naval forces and coastguard units are constantly faced with new challenges.
Operations on the high seas and in coastal waters are characterised by a high density of potential threats and extremely challenging environmental conditions.
As individual sensor technologies can sometimes reach their limits in such circumstances, in many cases the best way to gain a reliable picture of the situation is to use a combination of sensors.
Our solution
Military intelligence provided by high-performance sensors is vital to gain and maintain control of sea lanes and coastal regions. The sensors in COLDS NGB from HENSOLDT have been designed with naval applications in mind. The system detects laser range finders, laser target designators and laser beam riders and provides excellent efficiency in all bearings.
Each COLDS NGB sensor unit covers more than 180° in azimuth and 90° in elevation. This provides full 360° azimuth coverage for each cluster, with two sensors installed on starboard and port. The system can be configured with up to 16 sensor units, depending on the size of the vessel, ensuring full protection of the platform.
