As the increasing availability and ease of use of small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS or drones) increases, so does the threat they pose. Carelessly controlled drones can pose a danger in various situations, such as around airports, sensitive properties or at outdoor events. Drones can also be misused for espionage, vandalism or terrorist attacks. Due to their compact design, low noise emission and low heat radiation, a high performance, counter-sUAS system is required to detect and defend against such drones. Reliably detecting a drone is a technical hurdle, but even once it has been detected and located, stopping it is still a challenge.

A single sensor and/or effector is not sufficient to detect, locate and defend against drones under a wide range of conditions. Reliable drone detection and defence therefore requires a combination of technologies to provide reliable and seamless drone detection and ultimately countermeasures.

The wide variety and high performance of commercially available and modified drone types in terms of size, speed and control mode requires a modular multi-sensor mix. This means that both drones in the air and their pilots on the ground can be reliably detected, located and tracked – at an early stage.

Effect
Based on the situational picture, field personnel can take effective action to neutralise threats from unauthorised drones and ensure the safety of property and protected assets. The mission of the enemy drone can be suppressed electromagnetically or the drone can be physically engaged.
Our solution provides a portfolio of effective countermeasures against all drone threats with minimal collateral impact on innocent bystanders (smart and GPS jammers, High-Power-Electro-Magnetics (HPEM) effector system, net launchers) and a fully automated chain of action or "man-in-the-loop".
