ECDIS
Electronic Chart Display & Information SystemThe challenge
Today, navigators of ships at sea need advanced tools to help them maintain and improve situational awareness, reduce and prevent human error and ensure a safe and speedy passage. These tools are the modern equivalent of the paper charts that were used in the early days of maritime navigation.
These modern tools provide an extra layer of safety for ship operators to help prevent groundings or collisions, and are in fact required by standards set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
These advanced tools must not only improve navigational safety and orientation, but also reduce the navigator’s workload with automatic features such as route planning and monitoring, automatic ETA calculation and ENC updating.
These tools must also provide continuous data recording for later analysis.
Our solution
Paper charts were once the main tool for nautical planning and charting; nowadays, the safety and guidance they once provided are now ensured by modern technology in the form of Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS).
Kelvin Hughes’ new, fully-compliant ECDIS uses an integrated, type-approved display and incorporates all the market-leading software functionality of the previous MantaDigita ECDIS – updated with new, time-saving features for a truly multifunctional bridge system providing networked navigation and situational awareness.
Designed for ease of use, the ECDIS provides clear and relevant information to the operater, facilitating decision making to improve safety and efficiency at sea.
Improved route planning tools also allow detailed passage plans to be generated and exported to PDF.
