IFF transponder
The challenge
Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) systems prevent friendly fire by using automated electronic signals. IFF technology ensures that armed forces can distinguish between friends and potential threats by using the signal when contacted.
The new Mode 5 standard IFF is mandatory for all NATO countries. It uses advanced cryptographic technologies to protect systems from electronic interference by the enemy.
This ensures the safety of troops during multi-unit exercises and missions and makes coordination between units safer and more reliable.
Our solution
Whenever multiple military units are involved in joint operations, they need to ensure that crews on the ground, in the air and at sea can reliably identify each other to prevent incidents of friendly fire.
HENSOLDT’s LTR 400 is a state-of-the-art lightweight IFF Mode 5 transponder, fully certified for both military and civil use.
This transponder responds to interrogation calls; the reply signal can then be evaluated and interpreted within the interrogator.
The LTR 400 combines both the very latest technology and experience from many years of transponder development and platform integration.
