The challenge

One of the battlefield threats to military vehicles and their occupants is that of Radio-Controlled Improvised Explosive Devices (RCIEDs). This requires measures and systems that can save lives and protect assets, while providing battlefield agility.

The solution lies in technologies that can combine barrage jamming with targeted reactive jamming to cover all risks, taking advantage of both techniques for targeted yet extensive jamming.

Ideally, the jamming system should constantly optimise the jammer’s response to an ever-changing spectral environment, using smart technology to autonomously respond to various signal scenarios in the most appropriate and effective way.

It should do this by continuously jamming entire frequency bands while simultaneously isolating relevant spectral regions for targeted jamming.

Our solution

The dangers faced by personnel and platforms due to Radio-Controlled Improvised Explosive Devices (RCIEDs) require jamming technologies to neutralise this threat.

HENSOLDT’s GEW GMJ9 by is a new-generation, software-defined, multi-role jammer that combines a responsive jammer for countering RCIEDs for vehicle-based patrols with tactical communications jamming and brings them together in a single, compact and rugged system.

At its core is a high-performance COMINT receiver that continuously monitors the frequency spectrum for threat signals and allows it to calculate the most effective use of available jamming resources by using special waveforms to precisely target signals that pose a threat.

When not used in the electronic attack role, this advanced receiver further extends the capabilities of the GEW® GMJ9 to signals intelligence operations.
