The challenge

With the growing threat of unauthorised aircraft/UAV incursions, today’s armed forces often only have moments in which to make decisions and quickly take the decisive steps that a mission requires.

Forces need an identification capability that allows military and civilian air traffic control interrogators to identify whether aircraft, vehicles or forces are friendly or not, and to determine their bearing and range from the interrogator.

The systems used must also be supported by testing across the entire IFF chain (transponder, interrogator and combined interrogator and transponder [CIT]), covering the full range of civil and military IFF modes, including NATO Mode 5. These systems can be found on aircraft, frigates, MANPADS or ground-based air defence stations.

Our solution

In the field, the effort to distinguish friend from foe and prevent friendly fire creates a clear need for high-performance testing of the full range of IFF systems in use.

As part of the next generation of test equipment to support IFF, the BTI1000I Multifunction Field Tester is a flight line tester with advanced, test bench-level functionality.
Its human-machine interface boosts performance not only in field testing but also in the more sophisticated tests conducted during IFF system integration or validation.

The BTI1000I Multifunction Field Tester can simulate the interrogator (e.g. MSSR 2000I, MSR1000I) or the transponder (LTR400). It verifies IFF waveforms and modes including secure modes in the field and in bench testing.
