PANOS360

Persistent, non-rotating panoramic observation
Panos360 scenario

The challenge

Maximising the safety and operational effectiveness of naval platforms and their crews requires close-range observation capabilities that spot and identify objects that could pose a threat to the vessel or impede its navigation.
Because scenarios on the water can evolve quickly, threats and impediments are best spotted in real time. The system employed must therefore offer low latency from camera to a multiple-user HMI. Furthermore, the ICMs mounted on the hull or superstructure for use in observing the surroundings must be distributed to maximise visibility and minimise any blind spots.
Delivering on this capability requires surface-vessel optronics that can rise to all these challenges.

Our solution

With these challenges in mind, HENSOLDT developed PANOS360 – a novel optronics solution designed specifically for close-range observation. PANOS360 features a panoramic-vision system that safeguards naval vessels during day and night-time navigation.
PANOS360 ensures 360° real-time observation and threat identification as well as tracking while simultaneously providing data exchange with other subsea and surface systems.
At the front end, our solution provides optronic lookouts in the form of ICMs mounted above deck to deliver video input to the central image-processing unit.

Thanks to the specially designed human-machine interface on PANOS360, operators can access the panoramic view through a console screen or through a VR-like device.

Sensors are placed around the vessel based on an analysis that identifies potential blind spots.
