Taufkirchen/Germany, 3 June 2023 – Seven municipalities in the district of Munich hosted individual countries at the Special Olympics World Games, which took place in Berlin from 17 to 25 June 2023. HENSOLDT – as part of its Corporate Citizenship (CSR) initiatives and the "HENSOLDT Ability Journey" – supports local communities and inclusion and is therefore contributing 5,000 euros to Taufkirchen's programme.

The Special Olympics World Games are the world's largest sporting event for mentally and multiply disabled athletes. The delegations from Gibraltar, Papua New Guinea and New Zealand were guests in the district of Munich before the Special Olympics opened in Berlin on 17 June. To acclimatise, the teams of athletes and their coaches and companions stayed for a few days in so-called "Host Towns" and had the opportunity to get to know the Munich area, its people, and the living Bavarian tradition.

45 members of the Special Olympics Gibraltar team were guests in Oberhaching and Taufkirchen. A varied programme was prepared by the municipalities with training sessions with local athletes, excursions to Nymphenburg and the Bavaria Film Studios, as well as joint evening events. "As a company, it is important to us to support local initiatives at our locations and to promote the inclusion and participation of people with disabilities. It was only logical that we followed the call of the mayor of Taufkirchen and participated with a donation," says Michael Schlüpmann from the HR department.

Many social initiatives also arise privately from among our HENSOLDT staff – as was the case with the Special Olympics. Heike Angermann, Customer Support Manager, took part in live last week in Berlin. As a volunteer, she was a helping hand for the athletes when they went from the call room (waiting area) to the sidelines. "I find it remarkable what willpower is behind each individual, despite the disability. When you see how happy a player can be after hitting a free throw – even if the referee whistles it for an infringement – you can't help but feel happy. It's a great event, and I can only recommend everyone to be there, whether as a spectator or a volunteer," she says.

Living inclusion in a company requires courage and the necessary will to contribute to change in society and corporate culture. With the "HENSOLDT Ability Journey" to strengthen inclusion in the workplace, many colleagues are already working on equal opportunities in practice

Safety forms the basis for a sustainable future - HENSOLDT is equally committed to both. The company takes its responsibility as a sustainable, local business very seriously and has set itself ambitious goals for emissions avoidance, resource-conserving business and responsible corporate governance. For this reason, HENSOLDT supports numerous initiatives aimed at sustainable investments in local communities, education, employees and the environment.
