HENSOLDT has sponsored two teams from the Ernst-Abbe-Gymnasium in Oberkochen at the world finals of the VEX Robotics Worlds Championship 2024 in Dallas with a sponsorship worth 4,000 euros. The young engineers were able to impress with their performances at the world final.
For the first time, two teams ("Elementary" and "Middle School" age groups) from Ernst-Abbe-Gymnasium Oberkochen took part in the VEX Robotics World Finals in Dallas. Both teams were scheduled to play 10 matches each. The team from Ernst-Abbe-Gymnasium in the "Middle School" age group was able to secure 26th place in their 84-team division with 7 wins. This good performance puts them in 75th place in the overall world ranking of 16,000 teams. The team in the "Elementary" age group achieved a respectable place in the second half of the starting field in the world final.
The two disciplines in the robotics competitions are called VEX iQ and VEX V5. They differ in the size of the playing field, the tasks and the number of robots on the field. In iQ, the playing field is significantly smaller and there is a maximum of two robots on the field as an alliance. The task this year was to collect cubes of different sizes and place them in the appropriate containers. In V5, a maximum of four robots are on the field in alliances of two. This year, balls had to be shot into goals.
"Taking part in the world final in Dallas was a special experience for the students. We are delighted that we were able to play a part in this, because supporting young engineers is something that is close to our hearts," says Guy Kouemou, Technology Coordinator at HENSOLDT.
