HENSOLDT completes first Australian ASR-NG© Radar Course with seven graduates

Amberley, Australia, 6 April 2022 – HENSOLDT Australia’s training team delivered on a key milestone for the AIR5431 Phase 2 Program today with the completion of the first ASR-NG© Radar course at RAAF Base Amberley.

Amberley, Australia, 6 April 2022 – HENSOLDT Australia’s training team delivered on a key milestone for the AIR5431 Phase 2 Program today with the completion of the first ASR-NG© Radar course at RAAF Base Amberley. The five week course was developed in Australia and is designed to provide selected Air Traffic Control radar specialists with the knowledge and skills to maintain the nine ASR-NG© Fixed Defence Air Traffic Control Surveillance Radars being delivered to the Royal Australian Air Force. On 6th April 2022 the first seven graduates were presented with their course completion certificates.

HENSOLDT Sensors GmbH will soon complete delivery of the first ASR-NG© Air Traffic Control Surveillance Radar at RAAF Base Williamtown and to ensure the radar specialists have the necessary training, competency and authorisation to support these ASR-NG© Radars, HENSOLDT Australia is subcontracted to deliver nine initial five-week ASR-NG© Radar courses and then two courses each year for the first five years.

The students completing the course today comprised a mix of RAAF and APS members.

The State-of-the-Art Operational Maintenance Trainer (OMT) (pictured) manufactured in Germany by HENSOLDT Sensors is operated and maintained in Australia by HENSOLDT Australia Pty Ltd. All other training tools and materials were developed locally by the experienced team at HENSOLDT Australia.

HENSOLDT’s Program Director, Mr Doug Cross, said “HENSOLDT takes great pride in playing a major role in the delivery to Defence of this exceptional Air Traffic Control capability and the training of Defence personnel to support the asset in service.”
