The expansion of renewable energies at HENSOLDT sites continues to gather momentum. The installation of photovoltaic (PV) systems on our own premises and the procurement of energy through power purchase agreements (PPAs) play a particularly important role. A look at current and future projects shows the way forward to a sustainable energy supply.

Expansion of renewable energies: progress and plans for the future

1. Expansion of PV systems on company-owned sites

In 2024, PV systems were installed on the following company-owned sites:

  • In Wetzlar, a new building with a capacity of 390 kWp (kilowatt peak) is being constructed.
  • In Laichingen, a 90 kWp system was installed.

Further large-scale projects are planned for 2025:

  • Oberkochen has already received a PV system with 1,000 kWp.
  • In Epreville in France, another system with 130 kWp is being installed.

These measures contribute to increasing the proportion of self-generated electricity and make an important contribution to reducing CO2 emissions.

The smaller existing plants in Kiel, Ulm and TFK also have a total output of 320 kWp.

2. Power Purchase Agreements (PPA)

In addition to operating its own plants, the energy supply is secured through long-term supply contracts via Power Purchase Agreements. From 2026, fixed contracts will be concluded with direct wind and solar parks. This includes:

  • 6.1 MW photovoltaic PPA
  • 1.5 MW wind PPA

These contracts guarantee a stable and predictable energy supply from renewable sources, independent of market fluctuations.

3. Outlook

Planning continues: We are currently examining whether additional renewable energies in the form of wind power, photovoltaics or hydropower can be integrated from 2027 onwards. Continuous development in this area underscores the company's commitment to a sustainable and climate-friendly energy future.

These measures will make a decisive contribution to the energy transition while ensuring a stable and environmentally friendly energy supply in the long term.
