50 years in South Africa

With the company’s largest operations outside of Europe in Africa, HENSOLDT is proud to call the region ‘home’. From a start-up over 50 years ago, HENSOLDT now has over 600 staff in the region today.

In South Africa, the company designs, manufactures, and sells a variety of highly technical solutions for defence and security applications which are exported around the world. Moreover, HENSOLDT employs a few dozen staff in Algeria for a project there.

HENSOLDT is committed to growing its presence in Africa. It consolidated its two South African subsidiaries, GEW Technologies (Pty) Ltd and HENSOLDT Optronics (Pty) Ltd, under the HENSOLDT brand. This strategic move will better leverage HENSOLDT’s global footprint to open new market opportunities for the company’s South African products, such as jammers, RF direction finders, and gimbals.

With Tellumat, HENSOLDT's most recent signed acquisition (expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2020), the company aims to achieve a combination of both strategic goals, focusing on radar technology capabilities specifically in South Africa.

Together with its strong partners in Africa, HENSOLDT is finding innovative solutions to defence and security challenges.
