Ulm, 15 November 2019 – Sensor manufacturer HENSOLDT supports the newly founded association "Schwaben-Tech-Park" (STeP) in preparing regional technological history for a wider audience. HENSOLDT site manager Peter Schlote handed over a collection of devices and electronic components from the time of Telefunken to STeP board members Dr. Andreas Münzner and Fritz Arends.
Telefunken has developed and produced radars and communication systems since the mid-fifties at the site in the western part of the city now used by HENSOLDT and Airbus until its integration into AEG in 1981. The collection compiled by former Telefunken employees consists of several hundred objects that were integrated into Telefunken equipment.
"Ulm and the wider region have played a major role in the further development of important technologies, such as radar," says HENSOLDT site manager Peter Schlote. "That's why an initiative like STeP, which brings this role closer to a wider audience, is a good thing that we as a technology group are happy to support.
"The acquisition of the Telefunken collection is a first big step on the way to a technology museum in the Swabian region with Ulm/Neu-Ulm as its centre. We, the volunteers of the Schwaben-Tech-Park, have worked towards this day. Thanks to the support of Hensoldt, the exhibits are well packaged and can now be published bit by bit on the museum's website: www.schwaben-tech-park.de," said chairman Felix Wiederspahn on the occasion of the collection's handover.
At the HENSOLDT site in Ulm, around 2,000 employees are currently involved in the development and manufacture of complex safety electronics, including radars, electronic protection systems and high-frequency electronic components. The majority of the employees are engineers and technicians, about 180 young people are trained at the site.
