Ulm, 29 April 2020 – Sensor solution provider HENSOLDT is supporting the fight against the novel corona virus by using special capabilities of its production facilities in Ulm for the manufacture of face protection visors.
The head of HENSOLDT's Ulm site, Peter Schlote, today handed over 40 such visors to the German Army Hospital. "As a sensor manufacturer, we work together with the German Armed Forces on many projects in a spirit of trust," says Peter Schlote. "Therefore, it was very important to us to support the Bundeswehr with our special capabilities particularly in this difficult situation".
"The visors are used at the Covid station and at the specialist examination centres. They help us there to protect our employees from infections. A big thank you to HENSOLDT ", says Colonel Dr. Jörg Ahrens, the Commander of the German Army Hospital in Ulm.
In addition, HENSOLDT is donating 3D-printed frame mounts and transparent films for visors to the Günzburg Civil Protection Service and the private initiative "Makers versus Virus". At the same time, the sensor manufacturer uses the visors to protect its own employees, for example in the company medical service and in production. "I already know similar visors from the emergency medical service", says HENSOLDT company doctor Lorenz Raming, "and I consider them very useful, especially when carrying out activities with a high risk of infection and aerosol formation".
Face visors produced by HENSOLDT using 3D printers and a CNC cutting machine serve as a barrier to droplets and, in addition to personal protective equipment, can reduce the probability of doctors and nursing staff being infected with COVID-19.
At HENSOLDT's Ulm site, around 2,000 employees are engaged in the development and production of sensors used by the military, including radars, electronic protection systems and high-frequency electronic components.
