Oberkochen/Germany, 03. November 2021 – In Oberkochen and Wetzlar, about one third of the PCs and laptops are replaced every year. This means that a lot of old equipment is collected. They are no longer useful for our purposes, but of course we do not want to throw away a three-year-old device. That's why the IT department of HENSOLDT Optronics in Oberkochen initiated a major donation campaign with a regional project from Heidenheim.
All laptops and PCs in Oberkochen and Wetzlar become obsolete after about three years and are then replaced by new devices. This means that one third of the devices are sorted out every year. In the beginning, the old devices were sold directly to the employees and the resulting proceeds donated. But due to a change in the law, this was no longer possible. All the nicer was now the possibility to donate the still good old appliances to people who do not have access to them for financial reasons.
After some extensive preparation, the time had come: Managing Director Andreas Hülle was able to hand over more than 300 computers, 220 laptops and 100 PCs to be precise, to project leader Kurt Neumeister in the presence of the representatives of the "Laptopspende Heidenheim" project and the representatives of the receiving organisations. "We are very pleased that we can still do something good with the devices that have become obsolete in our company," said Hülle, who had invited people to HENSOLDT Optronics in Oberkochen on Wednesday afternoon. In return, there was a collection of thank-you letters from the equipment recipients.
For the project leader, Kurt Neumeister, receiving the devices was "like Christmas and Easter in one day". There had never been a donation of this magnitude before. The equipment will now be refurbished by the project staff if necessary. In addition, all PCs will be equipped with screens, keyboards and computer mice. The costs for this are borne by the Rotary Club of Heidenheim-Giengen. Its president Wolfgang Fetzer was also a guest in Oberkochen. Since the beginning of the project, an almost five-figure sum has gone into the reconditioning of the 200 donated devices so far. The money comes from the proceeds of the mask project of the Rotary Club Heidenheim-Giengen under the leadership of Peter Hail from Heidenheim. The recipients of the devices are the Samariterstift Aalen and eva Heidenheim gGmbH, two social institutions. The third recipient is the integration department of the city of Heidenheim.
After the very successful first donation, Managing Director Andreas Hülle did not rule out further cooperation: "This way, the devices continue to serve a useful purpose after their first life with us."
