Immenstaad/Germany, 07 December 2022 – A few days ago, HENSOLDT delivered the ICE 3neo driving simulator to the DB Training division of Deutsche Bahn AG. The simulator is used for supplemental instruction for driving the ICE 3neo trains, training for train control systems as well as for examination and monitoring runs to extend the driving licence of locomotive drivers. There is no alternative to the use of simulators for these purposes, as the practical training of vehicle-related incidents and operational irregularities is hardly possible during regular driving operations.

The simulator reproduces the driver's workplace - the cockpit and the driving console - true to the original as well as the entire train virtually. It simulates the vehicle dynamics, that is the propulsion and braking system, the logical vehicle behaviour including all relevant on-board systems, the train control systems and the communication system, both in regular operation and in the event of an incident. The track and several different signalling systems are visualised by means of computer generation.

The ICE 3neo simulator has a 6-axis movement system with electromechanical actuators to simulate vehicle movements. The driver to be trained is presented with the computer-generated view to the front and outside on an 88" monitor mounted in front of the windscreen. In addition, there is a situation-dependent simulation of changes in the lighting conditions in the cockpit as well as of driving noises, ambient noises, all operating and display devices, the output of warning signals of the on-board systems and the communication via train radio.

The ICE 3neo simulator is part of the Simsphere Train product family from HENSOLDT and is a further development that takes into account the current version of the ICE 3neo vehicle and ETCS Baseline 3. It incorporates components from the software modules of the simulation system for the ICE 3 of the 407 series delivered to Deutsche Bahn in 2011 and the simulator for the ICE 4 created for Deutsche Bahn in 2018.
